Overcoming Lower Back Pain in Preston
Covid-19. Not only has it changed everything we do but, in the process, has been the effective cause of a lot of peoples lower back pain. Work more from home anyone?
Surprised? Well just think how many things it has changed. The way we work, rest and socialize. Even the way we exercise and educate. With these changes come new habits of how we sit, where we sit and how long we sit. Sound familiar?
How so?
Our bodies have been habituated to other ways of living and Covid-19 has introduced new ways. This means you have been exposed to different loads and stresses that you are not prepared for. The result? Lower back pain.
The reasons for increased back pain are many. Discussed at a basic level we can see a few obvious factors at play. The weight above your belt line is simply “falling” into your lower back. When we sit on a stable object such as a chair the muscles around the abdomen become slack. This means that they aren’t holding the torso tight so its purely a case of kilograms of tissue just sitting on top of the lumbar spine. The discs and joints of the lumbar spine are loaded beyond their capacity to sustain and so structues start to protest. Hence back pain results.
By the time we do that for 8 hours/day and then sit on the couch you can see how hard it can be on our spine.
The good news is we know what we’re talking about since we’ve been serving Preston for over 30 years in the same location. So for all the back pain sufferers in Preston let the chiro’s at Northcote Chiropractic Centre help you out.

A typical evaluation of a lower back looks a lot like this;
1. A good history will include factors like how long, how severe, getting worse or any trauma, infection or cancer.
2. Inspection of the region looking for curves and bends, skin canges, scars or swelling.
3. Palpation of the spine for musclce bulk, spasm or tenderness. Also looking for infection, inflammation and protuberances
4. How the spine moves within expected limits.
5. Special Testing. L3 with knee extension, L4 with ankle dorsiflexors, L5 with the large toe extensor and S1 with heel raising. Schobers Test and Straight Leg Raise Test are commonly done.
So if you have back pain in Preston or surrounding suburbs the chiropractors around the corner at Northcote Chiropractic Centre will probe the reasons you have back pain and find the path to being well again. Bet that sounds good!
