Are you suffering from one or more of the following symptoms:
- Pain when you move your shoulder?
- Pain when you sleep on a specific side?
- A shoulder joint ache?
- Trouble carrying items with one arm?
- Difficulty doing daily tasks like putting on your clothes?
- Pain when you move your shoulder?
Your shoulder joint is used for a number of functions and movements, so if there is a problem with your shoulder, it’s going to have an effect on much of what you do during the day. Your shoulder has many tendons, ligaments, nerves, bones, and muscles, and all of these can become injured.
Why might you have shoulder pain?
Shoulder pain, according to our experience, is often not a problem with the shoulder alone. More often than not, who is caused by poor posture or a problem with the entire body. Shoulder pain could be caused by any number of issues, which is why we take time to conduct an extensive examination and a thorough clinical history.
If there is no physical damage to the shoulder and there is no underlying medical problem, then shoulder pain can be most often attributed to problems with the structure of the spine or imbalances in the posture.
When your posture tends to be slouching and forward slanted, that puts pressure on your shoulder joint. This can make it easier for your shoulder to become injured or for you to feel pain in that area.
If you stay in that forward position with rounded shoulders for much of the day, your shoulder is more likely to be injured. This puts strain on your shoulder while you stay in this posture, and that means it will take longer for shoulder injuries to heal.
Here’s an example from real life:
Try sitting upright and keeping your arms to your sides. Then, raise them above your head. Next, change your posture so that your shoulders are stop forward and your posture is forward as well. Try to do the same motion with your arms, and you should see that it is more difficult to raise the shoulders in a smooth motion using this posture.
What could be causing shoulder pain an improper posture? It could be caused by any of the following:
- sitting for too long while you work or drive
- inadequate back support
- the wrong height on your pillow
- a mattress that is excessively soft
- direct injuries
- repetitive sports injuries
- repetitive strain injuries
